Solar Sisters, Lines and a Retrospective Tour!

Power is Knowledge by Lea McComas

For want of a light, the lesson was lost.
For want of a lesson, the student was lost.
For want of a student the teacher was lost.
For want of a teacher the school was lost.
For want of a school the village was lost.
For want of a village a culture was lost.
And all for the want of a light.

The Giving Circle by Lorraine Landroche.

Light the Darkness by Joan Blade Johnson and Melanie Johnston

Eyes Wide Open:  Seeing Light in Mundane by Shin-hee Chin.

These top three quilts were all part of the Solar Sister Challenge Exhibit sponsored by Quilt for Change.  These organizations "help African women start small businesses selling solar energy products in their communities.  Thanks to this, children can study at night, mothers can care for their families and run small businesses, and communities can provide basic health care."

Lines of Symmetry by Louisa L. Smith

This quilt and the next quilt are from the Time Lines: SAQA - Nebraska Regional Exhibit.

Ten Commandments by Elaine Jones.
Her artist statement reads "It began with doodling in a Bible Study on the Ten Commandments and then I converted the Sharpie doodles to machine stitches on fabric for the "Lines Occurring Over Time" piece.  (More difficult than I originally thought it would be).  Each commandment contains the number in the design and a design hint."

Sewing Sister by Allison Wilbur, also from the Solar Sister exhibit.

Rockets and Leaves by Mimi Wohlberg

This quilt and the next one are from The Retrospective Tour of the Signature Art Quilters exhibit.  This group has been together for almost 20 years but say the group has run its course and this is their final Mancuso show tour.

Free Form 2 by Sherry Pryor

I have been working on my TQS blocks of the month.  I have SO many things I want to work on!  But like everyone else, finding the TIME to do it all is the trick.  I hope everyone gets to sneak a little quilting time in this holiday weekend.  I am going to help my daughter finish a baby quilt for her friend :)
