Productive Day

Besides working a half day today, I made a new iPad sleeve for my iPad!  My old sleeve was wearing out and I decided I didn't like having the button on the front (too bulky).  So here is the new iPad sleeve, made from my beautiful stash of Downton Abbey fabric :)

I added a secret pencil pocket on the front.  If you look in the photo above you can't really see it, but it's there!  (There is also a secret pencil pocket on the inside :) It was fun to make - I'm excited about it.  I was asked recently "What is your favorite gadget?"  Answer: My iPad....definitely my iPad.  I don't know if you'd call it a gadget necessarily but whatever you call it, it's my favorite!

And to make the day even more productive I made a delicious loaf of zucchini bread!  I've had a zucchini sitting on the counter that I bought at the Farmer's Market and decided to make some bread with it.  I could not find my recipe though, so I looked at the King Arthur Flour website and found one that looked good.  It is SO yummy.  Check out the photo below to see how lovely the loaf looks.  Usually my bread tastes pretty good but looks terrible.  This one looks darn good and tastes great!  Yeah!  Below the picture I'll include a link to the recipe!

Mystery Block of the Month

The mystery block of the month quilt that I participated in with My Girlfriend's Quilt Shoppe turned out like this! It's pretty cute, but look at the row of paper dolls - the white girl's head just does not show up!  Nor do her legs!  I'll have to get creative when I machine quilt it so it doesn't look like an empty dress standing there :)

The blocks were kits sent out each month with all of the pieces already cut by the Accu Quilt Go.  This was part of my Countdown to Christmas package last December.

I wrapped some binding around my little binding baby.  I'll get to try it out when I sew it on.

My Mom gave her nice Koala cutting table to my daughter Megan.  Right now it's a nice little hidey hole for our cute little baby :)

Have a great day!!

Red, White and Blue

I finished 8 patriotic quilts that some women in my church had started.  Three of them were tied, and I just finished the edge and the other five needed quilted and the edge finished.  I'm not sure exactly where they're headed next, but I think they will go to the VA Hospital.
I started working on my Bear block today too.  And I really need to come up with a plan for my exchange quilt with the International Miniature Quilt exchange!  I'm exchanging with Deb from Canada - should be way fun!

Next Up - The Bear!

I finished my second Woodland Whimsy block - this cute little raccoon - just in time.  The third block came in the mail yesterday!  I am having SO much fun working on these little critters.

Next I get to work on this cute bear, with a beehive and a bunch of bees, and the ever present little ladybug :)

For Fun

A friend of mine shared this picture with me.  I don't know who made this quilt but it sure is clever!  That little block popped right outta there!

I'm a little "saddle sore".  While my new saddle stool is great for my back, sitting on it for long hours starts to feel like I've been on my bicycle too long, or in spin class, or something uncomfortable like that... Hmmm... I'll have to "ride it" for shorter periods of time and see if I can get more used to it :)

It feels like a Saturday to me today, but it's not. Have a great weekend anyway!!

New Quilting Stool

I finished pinning a bunch of quilts - it took me the better part of three days - and now I've moved on to quilting!

I purchased a saddle stool from Hi Fashion because I've been experiencing back pain after quilting for long periods of time.

This stool has no back, which you don't really need when quilting anyway. I can tilt it forward slightly and it forces me to sit up straight!  I think I was hunching over, which was causing the back pain before.  I quilted for three hours yesterday with no pain! Hurray!

Back to more quilting today - I'm trying to get these patriotic quilts done so I can get back to my own projects :)

Have a great day!!

UQSM

This week I thought I would share the rest of the photos I took at the UQSM in SLC in May.  There were a lot of quilts made with the vintage linens, similar to what Cindy Needham does. Here are a couple.

(I love the use of orange in this one :)

Magical Toys
Pieced and quilted by Flora Joy

This is one of those "three pictures" in one quilts and I thought I took a picture from all three angles but apparently not!  Very cool quilt!

Pieced and quilted by Sandra Clark

1st Place Wall Hanging

This quilt is hand appliquéd with beautiful Japanese fabrics using the tile quilt method done circa 1900's. It is an original design inspired by the book Tile Quilt Revival by Carol Gilham Jones and Bobbi Finley.

One funny Father's Day story:
I teach the six year olds in church on Sundays and yesterday they were writing little notes for their Dads for Father's Day.  One little girl, whose Dad is not in the home, said she wanted to write her note to her Grandpa.  She asked me to help her write it and told me what to write, "Dear Grandpa, I love you because you married the nicest person in the whole world, and have the nicest kids!"  I think Grandma must've been feeling pretty good after reading that note :)
